Government deadline looms: add those extra solar panels now
New Australian Standards for solar systems
From July 12, 2015 Standards Australia will change the installation and safety requirements of solar systems. Some inverters will be removed from the Clean Energy Council's approved list and will no longer meet the eligibility requirements for NEW Small Scale Technology Certificates.
Small Scale Technology Certificates help reduce the cost of what you pay upfront for your solar panels. In some cases, they can reduce the cost by thousands of dollars.
What does this mean for you?
If you are planning on adding more panels to your current solar system, and your current inverter no longer meets the Clean Energy Council's requirements, you can miss out on the savings generated by STCs for your new panels.
For example, if you have a 5kW inverter with 2kW solar panels, and you want to upgrade to your inverters full capacity of 5kW, with STCs you can currently save approximately $2100. After July 11, 2015, you could miss out on this saving!
